When we first started showing homes in NorthPark by Gentry, one of the biggest concerns buyers had was "is there anything to eat around here?" Fair question — the west side used to be pretty sparse when it came to dining options. But that's changed dramatically over the last few years, and NorthPark residents now have solid shopping and dining within a short drive.

We live in Mililani but spend a lot of time on the west side working with clients, and we've gotten to know the food scene pretty well. Austin's go-to is always the plate lunch spots — he can't pass up a good loco moco. Here's what's near NorthPark.
Grocery Stores Near NorthPark
You won't have to drive far for groceries. Here are the closest options:
- Foodland (Ewa Town Center) — About 5 minutes from NorthPark on Fort Weaver Road. Full-service grocery with a good poke counter and local products.
- Safeway (Laulani Village) — Also on Fort Weaver Road, roughly 5-7 minutes away. Larger store with a pharmacy and wider selection.
- Foodland Farms (Ka Makana Ali'i) — About 10 minutes toward Kapolei. This is the premium Foodland experience with their in-store restaurant Mahi'ai Table and specialty items you won't find at other locations.
- Costco (Kapolei) — Approximately 10-12 minutes from NorthPark. The usual Costco experience with gas station. Gets busy on weekends, so weekday mornings are your best bet.
- Target (Ka Makana Ali'i) — For those quick grocery runs combined with everything else Target offers.
Ewa Town Center
This is the closest shopping center to NorthPark, located at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road and Renton Road. It's a straightforward neighborhood center with essentials:
- Foodland grocery store
- Longs Drugs (CVS)
- First Hawaiian Bank
- Genki Sushi
- L&L Drive Inn
- Ramen-Ya
- Jamba Juice
- The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
- Subway
- Great Clips
Nothing fancy, but it covers the basics and it's close. We send clients here all the time when they need a quick bite during house hunting.
Laulani Village
Just a block south of Ewa Town Center, Laulani Village is the larger shopping option with about 42 tenants. Anchored by Safeway, Ross, City Mill, Petco, and Walgreens, it's where you go for bigger shopping runs. Dining options lean heavily Asian with spots like Bangkok Chef, Golden Coin Chinese, Pearl's Korean BBQ, and Panda Express.
Ka Makana Ali'i
This is the big one. Ka Makana Ali'i in Kapolei is West Oahu's largest shopping center with over 100 stores and restaurants. It's about 10 minutes from NorthPark and has everything you'd expect from a major mall:
- Major retailers: Macy's, H&M, Old Navy, Bath & Body Works, Sephora
- Dining: The Cheesecake Factory, Moani Island Bistro, Dave & Buster's, Genki Sushi, multiple food court options
- Entertainment: Consolidated Theatres (movies), various events throughout the year
- Grocery: Foodland Farms at The Grove
We've taken our kids to Ka Makana Ali'i plenty of times. The outdoor layout is nice, parking is generally easy to find, and there's usually something going on — craft fairs, holiday events, or live music.
Local Restaurant Picks Near NorthPark
Here are some of the spots NorthPark residents frequent:
- Hali'a by Side Street Inn — One of the newer additions to Ewa Beach dining. Great local-style food with generous portions.
- Jolene's — A popular Ewa Beach spot for casual dining.
- Kountry Style Kitchen — Classic Hawaiian plate lunch. Big portions, fair prices.
- Honolulu Kitchen — Dim sum and Chinese food that locals love.
- The Lookout Food & Drink — Located near the beach with sunset views and locally sourced island food.
- Domo Domo — Japanese comfort food that's become a local favorite.
Kapolei Commons & Kapolei Shopping Center
A bit further west (about 12-15 minutes), you'll find additional big-box shopping at Kapolei Commons with Target, TJ Maxx, Ross, and Down to Earth for organic groceries. The Kapolei Shopping Center next door has Safeway, Chili's, Pizza Hut, and various services. Home Depot is right across the street for all your home improvement needs — and with a new home in NorthPark, you'll probably be making trips there.
What's Missing (And Where to Find It)
The west side has come a long way, but there are still some things you might need to head toward town for. High-end dining is limited — for special occasions, most residents head to Ko Olina for resort restaurants or make the drive to Honolulu. Specialty stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's aren't on the west side yet, though Down to Earth in Kapolei fills some of that gap.
That said, the shopping and dining landscape keeps improving. New restaurants and shops open regularly as the west side population grows, and NorthPark residents benefit from being positioned between the established Ewa Beach retail and the expanding Kapolei commercial district.
