One of the things that surprised us the first time we showed homes in NorthPark by Gentry was how much outdoor space and community programming there is right at your doorstep. NorthPark sits directly next to the Thomas H. Gentry Community Center, which is basically the social hub for the entire Ewa by Gentry neighborhood. For families with kids — or even couples who just like having a community feel — this is a real advantage.

We're Kristy and Austin Nakamura of Your Oahu Home Team brokered by eXp Realty. We live in Mililani where community parks and rec centers are a huge part of daily life, so we totally understand why buyers prioritize this. Here's a complete breakdown of the parks and recreation options available to NorthPark residents.

Thomas H. Gentry Community Center and Park

This is the main community amenity for NorthPark, and it's literally right next door. The Gentry Community Center includes:

  • Playground with modern equipment
  • Comfort station (restrooms)
  • Picnic tables and benches
  • Large open grass field for sports, kite flying, or just letting kids run
  • Reservable pavilion for parties and gatherings

The community center also hosts regular events throughout the year including quarterly movie nights (they set up a big screen on the field), holiday celebrations with Santa photos and shave ice, craft fairs, flea markets, and resident appreciation events. Our clients who live in Ewa by Gentry have told us the Halloween and Christmas events are particularly popular — big turnout, food trucks, face painting, the whole nine yards. It's the kind of community vibe that's hard to find in newer developments.

Hoalauna Park

Hoalauna Park is another popular spot within the Ewa by Gentry community. It's a short walk or drive from NorthPark and offers:

  • Playground
  • Comfort station
  • Outdoor fitness equipment — great for a quick workout without a gym membership
  • Enclosed dog park with bench seating
  • Picnic tables and benches
  • Open field

The dog park is a big draw for NorthPark pet owners. It's fully fenced with separate areas, and the surrounding neighborhood is known for being dog-friendly — you'll see plenty of people walking their dogs on the wide sidewalks around NorthPark every morning and evening.

Westside Community Park

Located on the western side of the Ewa by Gentry development, Westside Community Park includes a playground, comfort station, benches, and open field. It's a quieter option if you want a less crowded park experience.

Ewa Beach Community Park

A bit further from NorthPark but still easily accessible, Ewa Beach Community Park is the largest park in the area and includes:

  • Two baseball diamonds
  • Tennis courts
  • Basketball and volleyball courts
  • Skate park
  • Playground
  • Weekly Friday farmers market (starting at 9 AM)

If your kids are into organized sports, this is where a lot of youth league games happen. Austin grew up playing sports on the west side, so we know how important having accessible fields and courts is for active families.

Wai Kai Lagoon

The Wai Kai complex in Ewa Beach is a newer entertainment and recreation destination just a short drive from NorthPark. It features a wave lagoon for surfing and water sports, restaurants, event spaces, and waterfront activities. It's become a popular weekend hangout for families and is adding to the overall lifestyle appeal of the Ewa Beach area.

Nearby Beaches

While NorthPark is an inland community, Ewa Beach's coastline is accessible within a 10 to 15 minute drive. Ewa Beach Park (also known as Oneula Beach Park) offers a sandy beach, picnic areas, and calm waters for family swimming. For more beach options, the Ko Olina lagoons are about 15 to 20 minutes west, and the White Plains Beach area near Kalaeloa is also popular with families.

Community Association Events and Activities

The Ewa by Gentry Community Association (EbGCA) runs regular programming for residents including seasonal events, community clean-ups, and recreational activities. The association also manages the common areas, parks, and landscaping throughout the development. Residents have noted that the community hosts sports leagues, fitness classes, and social gatherings at the various community facilities.

If community life and outdoor recreation are priorities in your home search, NorthPark delivers in a way that many newer subdivisions don't. The combination of the Gentry Community Center right next door, multiple parks within walking distance, and the broader Ewa Beach amenities makes this a strong option for active families.
