The North Shore is famous for its food truck scene. Along Kamehameha Highway between Haleiwa and Kahuku, you'll find trucks serving garlic shrimp, poke bowls, Thai food, tacos, smoothies, and more. Popular stops include the food truck cluster near Sunset Beach and the Kahuku shrimp trucks further up the coast.

Haleiwa Town Core
The main strip along Kamehameha Highway is lined with shops in vintage plantation-era buildings. Key shopping spots include:
- Surf N Sea: The oldest surf shop in Hawaii, offering board rentals, gear, and lessons since 1965. A North Shore landmark.
- North Shore Marketplace: A collection of shops and restaurants in the heart of Haleiwa, including clothing boutiques, galleries, and the Coffee Gallery.
- Haleiwa Store Lots: A shopping complex with boutiques, restaurants, and a Volcom store. One of the newer developments in town while maintaining the Haleiwa aesthetic.
- Guava Shop: Locally owned boutique featuring Hawaiian-made clothing, accessories, and gifts.
- Wyland Gallery Haleiwa: Ocean-themed art from the famous marine life artist. A great spot for unique North Shore art.
Waialua Sugar Mill
The historic Waialua Sugar Mill complex, just minutes from Haleiwa, houses several unique businesses:
- Island-X Hawaii: Hawaiian gifts, locally grown coffee and chocolate, and souvenirs.
- North Shore Soap Factory: Handmade soaps and bath products made on-site. A unique North Shore shopping experience.
- Waialua Estate Coffee & Chocolate: Tours and tastings of coffee and cacao grown right on the North Shore.
Farmers Markets
The Haleiwa Farmers Market (Saturdays) offers fresh local produce, prepared foods, artisan goods, and live entertainment. It's a weekly community gathering that residents look forward to. Additional farmers markets operate throughout the North Shore area on various days.
Grocery Shopping
Everyday grocery shopping on the North Shore is more limited than in urban Oahu:
- Malama Market: The main grocery store in Haleiwa town. Carries basics and local items.
- Celestial Natural Foods: A natural and organic grocery store in Haleiwa. Popular with health-conscious residents.
- Foodland Farms (Mililani/Wahiawa): For a larger grocery run, most North Shore residents head to Wahiawa or Mililani where Foodland, Safeway, and Costco are available. It's about a 20-minute drive.
Many residents do a weekly big-shop run to Wahiawa or Mililani and supplement with farmers market purchases and Malama Market for day-to-day needs.
